Recently, the development of the Chinese mainland in the field of memory has once again become hot, and the most interesting thing is the action of Hefei. It is said that Hefei Changxin Co., Ltd., which invests in Hefei, will invest about 50 billion yuan to build a 12-inch wafer fab wafer production line with a monthly capacity of 125,000 pieces in Hefei. Another source said that Beijing Zhaoyi Innovation will also join the plan. Despite the clarification of the post-mortem innovation, it is said that it is only in the initial stage of contact. But this information also shows that Hefei is trying to form a development hub for the memory industry. In addition, the actions of the other two storage forces in China are not small. Zhao Weiguo, Chairman of Ziguang Group/Changjiang Storage, revealed that the Wuhan Memory Chip Base, which is invested by Ziguang with a total investment of US$24 billion, will soon start construction. It is expected to be completed in 2018, with a monthly production capacity of about 200,000 pieces. By 2020, the total capacity of the base will reach 300,000 pieces/month and 20 million pieces/month in 2030, becoming a world-class memory production base. Fujian Jinhua Integration signed a technical cooperation agreement with UMC, which assisted its production of niche DRAM. The new 12-inch factory has been started, and the initial capacity planning is 60,000 pieces per month. It is estimated that the technology development will be completed by the end of 2017 and the trial production will be carried out in September 2018. As a result, the Chinese memory industry has gradually formed three forces and is developing. Patents and talent are important challenges Although China has taken the first step in developing the storage industry, the future is not yet predictable. First of all, in the market, according to the latest DRAMeXchange data, due to the growing demand for smartphones to load memory capacity, the total output value of mobile memory in the third quarter reached $4.588 billion, a quarterly increase of 16.8%. DRAMeXchange research associate Wu Yating expects mobile memory to continue to expand in the fourth quarter of this year in terms of total DRAM revenue. In terms of NAND flash memory, the demand for smartphones was also affected. In the third quarter, NAND flash memory began to increase in price, which led to a 19.6% increase in NAND vendor revenue and a significant increase in operating profit margin. DRAMeXchange research associate Yang Wende said that shipments of various electronic terminal devices will enter the peak period in the fourth quarter. It is estimated that the overall NAND flash memory will be in short supply, and the contract price of NAND flash will increase even higher. In other words, driven by the mobile market, the memory market is expected to maintain strong demand for a long time. In the future, driven by cloud computing big data, the development of data center construction is in the ascendant, and the demand for memory will continue to increase. This is a positive for the development of China's storage industry. However, from the industrial point of view, both DRAM and NANDFlash are highly monopolized. Even 3D NAND products that may bring opportunities for industrial change, international storage giants are constantly stabilizing technical barriers. At present, Samsung is in a leading position in 3DNAND. The mainstream technology is already 64-layer 3D NAND, and its 3DNAND output has accounted for 40% of its total NAND shipments. Toshiba’s catch-up is also fast. Toshiba plans to account for 50% of NAND output in 2017 and 80% in 2018. The window of opportunity for international companies to develop the storage industry in mainland China will not last long. The lack of technical talent is also one of the shortcomings in the development of the storage industry in mainland China. When the reporter communicated with DRAMeXchange analysts, he repeatedly said that talents will be a bottleneck in the development of the storage industry in mainland China. Almost at the same time, there are three large storage plants, and the demand for semiconductor engineers in the future is huge. Therefore, it is a long-term solution to plan ahead and establish a talent training mechanism for storage. In addition, the technical difficulty of self-developing memory is very high, and it is very important to obtain legal patent authorization for memory technology. Recently, there have been rumors in the industry about the technical licenses between Chinese manufacturers and international manufacturers. Although these news were quickly denied by the announcement, the importance and sensitivity of the issue of memory patent technology licensing can also be proved from the side.
